HOW SPECIAL NEEDS ASSISTANT CUTBACKS ARE IMPACTING CHILDREN!
The Government is cutting back on Special Needs Assistants in the country's schools. Many of the most vulnerable and special needs children will have their lives made even more difficult. Many face the prospect of not being able to take their place in school next September.
One such child is Jack McNiffe, from Ardclough, who is the only child in the world who has both Down's Syndrome and CINCA Syndrome. He cannot talk, cannot walk, has impaired hearing, and because of CINCA Syndrome suffers from chronic arthritis, skin rashes, abdominal cramps and high temperatures. He cannot take normal food and is completely fed by peg (tube).
Jack is only six years old. Because of the Special Needs Assistants cutbacks, he might not be able to take his place in St. Raphael's, Celbridge in September.
On a recent Kildare Today programme, his mother Aisling, told us about Jack.
Listen to her story and if you feel as we do, lobby your politicians for fair play for these children. Also, further information for parents e-mail:

They are organising a protest outside the Dáil to highlight this injustice on July 13th at 3pm.
Also, check out this youtube link which shows a selection of the children, including Jack McNiffe (he’s in the very first shot!) whose quality of life is being further compromised by the reduction in our schools of Special Needs Assistants.
