The Supreme Court has formally stated that a ban preventing asylum seekers from working here is unconstitutional.
It followed an initial ruling last year that asylum seekers should be allowed to seek employment in principle.
The ruling will affect many of the circa 75 people living in the EyrePowell Centre in Newbridge.
The Justice Minister, Laois/Kildare South TD, Charlie Flanagan, says it's an important day for those in the system as it marks an end to the absolute ban on seeking access to the jobs market.
He added that the government will align its position with EU standards.
