Ireland's Under 18 women had an historic 68-57 point win against Poland in the semi-final of the FIBA U18 Women’s European Championship Division B in Tallaght last night.
The squad is the first Irish basketball team to reach a European Championship final, and to play Division A basketball
Ireland took the lead two minutes into the second quarter, after a fantastic scoring run was finished off by Leixlip’s Sorcha Tiernan’s three pointer.
Ireland led 28-23 at halftime.
Monasterevin’s Claire Melia, who scored 18 points in total, also added a 3 pointer as Ireland held a two-point lead going into the last quarter, going on to win by 68-57.
They will play Germany, who beat Great Britain, in tonight’s final in the National Basketball Arena at 8.30pm.
