Kildare's Fitzimons Loses out at Euro 800m; Rovers In Europa League action tonight; Tom Cross JFC Thurs Fixtures; Allenwood's Carew is Irish Amateur Close Golf Champion

 

Kildare AC’s John Fitzsimons has finished seventh in his 800metres heat at the European Athletics in Munich.

He had led for stretches of the race but fell back in the closing straight.

Mark English won his heat to advance to the semi finals of the 800 metres.

Thomas Barr has missed out on a place in the final of the men's 400 metres hurdles

Carlow’s Marcus Lawler failed to make the semi finals of the 200 metres, finishing 7th in his heat.

Michelle Finn finished seventh in the semi final of the women's 3000 metres Steeplechase and has qualified for the final.

Louise Shanahan into the semi finals of the women's 800 metres after a third place finish in her heat.

Andrew Coscoran is in the men's 1500 metres final this evening and Roisin Flanagan runs in the women's 5000 metres final.

The football action continues tomorrow with 4 Junior football games, while on Saturday and Sunday, games are scheduled in the Senior, Intermediate and Junior grades from 12 noon to 5.30pm both days.

Kildare’s famous sports family - the Carews - are in the headlines again, but this time for golf.

Yesterday Quentin Carew won the AIG Irish Men’s Amateur Close Championship in Headfort Co Meath, beating Royal Dublin’s Hugh Foley in a playoff.

The 31 years old Tallagh-based Garda and former Allenwood GAA player clinched the title with an eagle on 20th.

 

Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry and Seamus Power are in the field for the PGA Tour's BMW Championship, which starts later today in Delaware.
