Frank Taaffe is a Kilkenny man exiled in Kildare He’s spent decades researching and writing the local history of Athy. For 30 years, he’s been writing of Athy and its people in his weekly Eye on Athy column for the Kildare Nationalist. He’s also published four books of these articles, titled “Eye on Athy”. Frank founded Athy’s museum, is a co-founder of Athy’s Art Centre and he is chairman of Athy’s Heritage company.

John MacKenna is a Jacob’s Award winning RTE Radio 1 broadcaster, author of novels, short-story collections, memoir and poetry. In 2020, he, and author Angela Keogh, founded the publishing company - The Harvest Press - to publish new work, offer performances and workshops and have scripts for theatre productions available. www.theharvestpress.ie. His most recent book about growing up in Castledermot is “I Knew This Place”- a collection of his radio essays from the RTE Radio 1 programme Sunday Miscellany over the past fifteen years, dealing with everything from the social and personal history of his home place to climbing Greek mountains. John teaches Creative Writing at Maynooth University and at The Hedge School on the Moone.

Breda Konstantin is a member of the Independent Tour Guides Association of Ireland and has been guiding tours since 2012. She is the founder of Celbridge Guided Tours and chairperson of Celbridge Tourism and Heritage Forum. She is actively involved in the conservation of heritage sites in Celbridge. Breda has worked in tandem with Kildare County Council Heritage office and Kildare Sports Partnership promoting Heritage and physical activities through walking.

Mario Corrigan is Senior Executive Librarian with Kildare County Council; he’s a writer, musician, podcaster and historian, He has written a number of guides including Kildare Footprints - a Manual for Tour Guides - Practical Considerations He is active on the Kildare Decade of Commemorations committee, which has been marking Kildare people’s involvement in World War 1, the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence and the Civil War.

Mary Coyle is a local historian and active on that front in Kill. She's a member of the local Active Retirement Group; she, also, set up a Bereavement Group in Kill. She's actively involved in the Tidy Towns Committee. A resident of Kill for over half a century, she was the first woman member of the Kill Scouts.

Leixlip

John Colgan is living for 52 years (2021) in Leixlip. He is an engineer and economist by training and education. Since buying the 290 year old Toll House on the Liffey Bridge in 1991, he became as a local historian and a Colgan genealogist. He’s the author of Leixlip, County Kildare – 92 topics, 300 pages, and articles in the Journal of the Co Kildare Archaeological Society, the Liffey Champion and elsewhere, as well as giving regular talks on related topics. He led the campaign to establish a town council in Leixlip, which was secured in 1988, the last one set up in Ireland.

Larry Breen is a local historian with a long association with the study and promotion of local history in Kildare and Ireland generally. He is a founder member of the Kildare Federation of Local History Societies, past Chairman of Naas Local History group and of the National Federation of Local History Societies. Larry is currently (2021) PRO and Editor of the “National Federation of Local History Societies Annual Journal” and, also, joint editor of Coiseanna, the Journal of Clane Local History Group. He published his book, “Nás na Ríogh - Reflections and Recollections” in 2017.

Paul Cooke is a researcher and committee member of Newbridge Local History Group, which was founded in 2010. He published 'Great Connell Churchyard' (history and headstone inscriptions) in 2018 and 'A History of Christianity in Newbridge' in 2019 to commemorate the 1,500th anniversary of the death of Saint Conleth.

Seamus Kelly was reared in Rathangan and attended the local national school. Formerly, he taught History and Geography in St. Declan’s PP, Cabra. He was active in the campaign to save Wood Quay in the 70’s. He is the author of “A Ramble in Rathangan” and previously “A Walking Tour of Leixlip”. He’s also designed walking tours in Medieval Dublin, the Phoenix Park, Leixlip and Rathangan.

Andy Flaherty is a local historian. He is a native of Ferbane, Co. Offaly, but has lived in Timahoe since 1977. Andy was a founding committee member of St. Mochua Historical Society in 1993. It began by restoring the old Timahoe Graveyard. He began editing and compiling the Society’s annual book "The Bridge" in 2014, in the process writing quite an amount of the articles.
