Philip Masterson confirmed that materials and workers will arrive today for a temporary fix while awaiting suitable weather conditions for a permanent roof repair.
"I'm going to get it fixed".
That's according to the landlord of St Brigid's boxing club in Kildare Town, Philip Masterson.
Speaking to Kfm, he has assured members that he is taking immediate steps to address the damage.
The club endured a "massive amount of water damage" following the recent storm.
Philip confirmed that materials and workers will arrive today for a temporary fix while awaiting suitable weather conditions for a permanent roof repair.
He has also contacted insurance brokers to assess potential coverage for the damage.
“If we get a dry spell, the permanent work will go ahead,” Philip stated.
Club founder Paddy Phelan welcomed the update but expressed frustration over the lack of sports facilities in the growing town.
“We were promised we’d have a home, but we have nothing,” he said. “Kids are tomorrow’s adults. If they’re not here training, they could be on the streets getting up to all sorts.”
He said over 120 locals benefit from the club.
Fianna Fail Cllr Suzanne Doyle supported the idea of bringing in a large marquee to cover the boxing ring and make it operational again.
“We will investigate that,” she said, adding that Kildare County Council (KCC) should be able to step in and provide assistance.
