In Naas and surrounding areas, the parents' associations from 11 primary schools have launched a voluntary 'Go Phone Free' campaign.
A coalition of primary schools in Naas and surrounding areas has introduced a new initiative aimed at discouraging parents from giving smartphones to their children.
Over the past year, similar efforts have been made by groups of schools in neighbouring areas, such as Greystones in Wicklow.
The parents' associations from the 11 primary schools below have launched a voluntary 'Go Phone Free' campaign.
The schools involved are:
- Mercy Convent Primary
- St Corban's Boys N.S.
- Scoil Bhride (Naas)
- Gaelscoil (Naas)
- St David's N.S.
- Holy Child Catholic N.S.
- Naas Community N.S.
- Killashee N.S.
- Scoil Bhride (Clane)
- Rathmore N.S.
- Two Mile House N.S.
The initiative encourages parents to refrain from providing smartphones to children during their primary school years, restrict access to social media, and adhere to video game age ratings.
The parents' associations, working in collaboration with local school administrators and teachers, are urging families to support the movement.
The group will host an informational meeting for parents later this month, featuring speakers who helped implement a similar initiative in County Waterford.
