Marble Dale Ltd applied to change the use of the Moyvalley Hotel & 15 apartments, which Council says is exempt from planning permission
Plans to develop Moyvalley Hotel into an International Protection accommodation centre appear to be back on the cards.
In February, the Citicorp Group had been in discussions with the current owners over potentially purchasing the estate and developing it into an IPAS centre, but that was put on hold.
It’s also understood the Department of Integration raised concerns about the hotel’s remote location and whether or not it would be suitable as an IPAS centre.
The lack of public transport and amenities in the area were also cited to Kfm by sources as potential stumbling blocks.
However, according to documents seen by Kfm, another company by the name of Marble Dale Ltd has applied to Kildare County Council seeking to change the use of the main hotel building and 15 on-site apartments into accommodation for individuals seeking international protection.
In response, Kildare County Council confirmed to the company that such a development would be exempted development and therefore would be exempt from needing planning permission.
Some locals, speaking to Kfm, are unhappy that this is back on the agenda, with some stating that the hotel, which is also a golf resort and popular wedding venue, is the only real amenity in the wider Moyvalley/Balyna area.
