Carlow Medical Student Is Hoping To Get Out Of Ukraine Today

Efforts to rescue Rachael yesterday failed.

Fresh efforts are underway to evacuate an Irish medical student in Ukraine.

A rescue attempt to help Rachael Diyaolu flee from Sumy yesterday failed after volunteers were fired on by Russian forces.

Rachel who is a medical student says her living conditions in the city were tough, with no electricity or water at the hostel where she was staying.

The Carlow student says she was heartbroken when yesterday's rescue attempt had to be abandoned.

But Rachael's now on the move and hoping to get across the Polish border today.
