Climate Change Advisory Council Members Says Govt. Will Have To Choose Between Deep Retrofit & New Builds.

Prof. Fitzgerald cites a skill shortage in the construction

A member of the Climate Change Advisory Council has said the Government will have to pick between deep home retrofits and building new housing.

Professor John Fitzgerald warned a skill shortage in the construction sector means both can't be done at the same time.

He's suggested a retrofitting programme for all the homes that need it, would cost between 10 and 15 billion euro.

But Tom Parlon, Director General of the Construction Industry Federation, doesn't believe builders would have to choose one over the other
