Monday Lunch Sport Update

A successful weekend for Naas, Kilcock and Kilcullen men’s football teams in Leinster action.

 

Yesterday, senior champions Naas came from behind with a late goal by Darragh Kirwan to pip Tullamore by 2-11 to 3-7

Naas will be home to Blessington in the quarter final; the Wicklow champions beat Longford’s Mullineaghta yesterday by

 

On Saturday, Kilcock beat Wicklow champions An Tochar by 0-15 to 0-7 in the Intermediate championship.

Next up for Kilcock are the Westmeath champions

 

Also on Saturday, Kilcullen had a decisive 2-11 to 0-5 win over Wicklow’s Barndarring in the Junior championship

Kilcullen will play Carlow champions Grange in the next round

 

*****This evening, Kildare Scoreboard from 6.30pm will review all three games, including manager interviews.

 

County Intermediate hurling champions Maynooth will play senior next season.

On Saturday, they beat Eire Og Chorra Choill by 0-18 to 0-9 in the senior/intermediate relegation play-foo.

 

Former All Ireland U20 manager Davy Burke is the  new Sarsfields Senior Football Manager for 2022

He formerly managed the club to a senior title in 2019

 

In Ladies football, 3 Kildare teams were in Leinster action.

Senior champions Eadestown lost out narrowly to Dublin and Leinster champions Foxrock Cabinteely by 12 points to 10

Intermediate champions Kilcock lost to Navan O’Mahony’s by 2-14 to 4-4

Junior champions Cappagh lost to Wexford champions Killarerin

Gareth Southgate has signed a new contract to extend his stay as England manager.

The 51-year-old's deal was set to expire after next year's World Cup but he and his assistant Steve Holland have signed a two-year extension through to December 2024

 

Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be open to an approach from Manchester United about taking over as the club's new manager.

It's understood Zinedine Zidane isn't interested in taking over at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick has been placed in temporary charge, and will speak to the media later today.

United play Villarreal in the Champions League tomorrow.

A final round of two-under 68 secured a top-five finish for Seamus Power at the PGA Tour's RSM Classic last night.

The Waterford native finished on 15-under-par and in a tie for fourth.

Leona Maguire concluded her LPGA Tour season with a final round of two-under 70 at the Tour Championship.

She finished in a tie for 12th place on 14-under in Florida, where Jin Young Ko won on 23-under.
