Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has expressed confidence in the commissioner's leadership.
The Garda Representative Association (GRA) is expected to confirm later this morning that the majority of its members have voted no confidence in Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.
Nearly 11,000 ballot papers were sent out to rank and file gardaí and the response rate is understood to be over 80%.
The Commissioner has already described the vote as something he should not have been subjected to and insists that he will not resign, regardless of the result.

In an unprecedented act, the first in the 100 years of An Garda Síochána, the GRA polled 10,800 of its members asking them: "Do you have confidence in the Garda Commissioner?’ Yes or No".
It is believed over 80% responded by posting their votes to the offices of independent auditor Chartered Accountants Merry Mullen, where they were counted yesterday.
The result is due to be announced this morning at 11.30am, but it is understood that a substantial majority have voted no confidence in the Garda Commissioner.
