The Justice Minister announced the drive this afternoon, saying he’s ‘very aware’ of the problems in the force.

A new Garda recruitment campaign will launch next week, in an effort to boost the declining numbers.

The Programme for Government commits to providing funding to recruit at least 5 thousand new Gardaí over the next five years.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan says he plans to move Gardai away from office based roles.
