Ukraine's President Says His Country's Defences Are Holding Up Against Russia

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainians have "nothing to lose but our own freedom"

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiyy says his country's defences are holding up against Russian attacks, despite Moscow claiming to have taken control of the port city of Kherson.

Speaking a week into the conflict, he said "we have nothing to lose but our own freedom".

Officials in another port city, Mariupol, say Russians are "constantly and deliberately" shelling civilian infrastructure there.

Many are being left without water, heating or power.

Zelenskyy has vowed to rebuild the country after the war, and says Russia will pay reparations:

Russia's foreign minister has gone on the attack against Western allies, and claims some world leaders are preparing for war with Moscow.
