Figures released to Sinn Fein show nearly 3 thousand council homes are currently vacant.

Jerry Maloney, 19, was a passenger in a pickup truck that crashed on the Barretstown Road in Newbridge shortly after 8pm last night.

The move is expected to be met with opposition.

Speaking to Kfm, Shane Scanlan, CEO of the Alliance for Supporting Nursing homes, said there also needs to be an immediate "root and branch review" into HIQA's response to the latest scandal to hit nursing homes run by Emeis Ireland.

The road is closed for an examination, and Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

The road remains closed as Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out a full examination, with local diversions in place.

In another incident, a driver attempted to evade a checkpoint but was stopped shortly after. The vehicle had no tax or insurance, bald tyres, and contained green diesel.

The cap applies to full-day care of 40 to 50 hours, while funding for the sector will also increase.

It's unclear yet if there have been any injuries.
