A call to paint the Kilcullen Road cycle track red has emerged as the latest proposal to tackle a growing safety issue in Naas.

It has been claimed that up to 40 incidents have been recorded, with some people breaking bones and teeth.
The Kilcullen Road upgrade included a segregated cycle lane and three crossing points between the Ballymore Road Junction and Murtagh’s Corner.
A consultant’s report will now decide if the red-paint solution will improve visibility of the raised kerb.
Numerous local councillors submitted motions pressing the council for urgent options - with red paint on the cycle track seen as the most practical and immediate fix.
Speaking to Kfm, Independent Cllr Seamie Moore said it would create a visible difference between the kerb and the cycle track.
Senior Engineers for the council said the Kilcullen Road Active Travel Scheme was designed to national standards, approved by the National Transport Authority, and passed independent Road Safety Audits.
Amid ongoing public concern, the council is now in the process of appointing an external consultant to review how the public interacts with the scheme and to recommend safety measures.
This month alone, a number of councillors raised the issue at the Naas Municipal District Meeting, including councillors Carmel Kelly (FF), Evie Sammon (FG), Anne Breen (Lab), Seamie Moore (Ind), Ger Dunne (Ind), Bill Clear (Ind) and Fintan Brett (FG).
