Ireland Lags Behind As Contactless Payments Will Not Be Rolled Out Until 2028

The new technology will be initially rolled out in the Greater Dublin Area initially.

Locals won't be able to tap their bank cards on the train or bus until 2028.

The National Transport Authority says the technology will appear by the end of 2027, with it being activated some months later.

Other than Leap Cards, the only way to pay for fares is by using tickets or cash

Leap Cards were introduced in Dublin in 2011, while Londoners have been able to use their cards for payments since 2012.
