Over 1,800 maternity claims and 508 paternity claims recorded in Q4, with Kildare outpacing Meath and Wicklow
Kildare recorded the third highest number of maternity and paternity benefit claims in the country in the final three months of last year.
New figures obtained by Kildare South Labour TD Mark Wall show there were 1,814 maternity benefit claims made in the county in the fourth quarter.
Only Dublin, with 8,267 claims, and Cork, with 3,228, recorded higher figures during the same period.
Kildare’s figures were significantly higher than neighbouring counties.
In Meath, there were 1,450 maternity claims during the quarter, while Wicklow recorded 966.
The same pattern is reflected in paternity benefit uptake.
Kildare recorded 508 paternity claims, compared to 401 in Meath and 253 in Wicklow.
More than 1,400 parents in Kildare — 1,403 in total — availed of Parent’s Benefit between October and December.
That compares with 1,253 claims in Meath and 802 in Wicklow.
Nationally, there were 29,460 maternity claims, 8,023 paternity claims, and 25,718 Parent’s Benefit claims recorded in the fourth quarter.
