Every local authority will benefit from a 5% increase in grants for restoration and improvement projects.
A significant boost of €23.1 million has been designated for the enhancement and maintenance of roads throughout Kildare.
The total investment package for regional and local roads in 2024 amounts to €658 million, signifying a €32 million increase from the previous year.
The funding will enable the maintenance of approximately 2,640 kilometers of regional and local roads to meet required standards, while an additional 2,160 kilometers will undergo strengthening measures to enhance overall road quality across the network.

An allocation of €16 million has been earmarked for 335 climate change adaptation projects aimed at future-proofing roads.
These projects range from seawall protection works in Donegal to flooding alleviation measures in Wexford.
Additionally, €50 million has been allocated to progress strategically significant road projects identified under the National Development Plan.
Further funding of €20 million has been designated for smaller-scale road improvements, including bridgeworks and junction reconfiguration projects.
The breakdown of the €658 million investment program for 2024 encompasses various aspects, including road pavement strengthening, preventative surface dressing, maintenance, bridge rehabilitation, safety improvement works, drainage works, community involvement schemes, climate change adaptation, signage, severe weather response, former national roads, and miscellaneous grants.
