A new Student Cost of Living Guide shows costs for living out of home now average at €14,000.
Kildare TD, Patricia Ryan and County Senator, Fiona O'Loughlin, are raising grave concerns about third level costs.
Increasing rents and food prices are leading to a likely rise in living costs, according to the Technological University Dublin Student Cost of Living Guide.
Students moving to Dublin will need €1,539 a month, or €13,827 for the year.
That's gone up from just over €12,000 needed for the 2019-2020 academic year.
South Kildare Sinn Féin TD, Patricia Ryan, says “The cost of going to university is far too high and students from families on ordinary incomes are being priced out. This is appalling. Education should not be a luxury for the privileged few whose families can afford it."
While Kildare Fianna Fáil Senator, Fiona O'Loughlin is calling for an urgent review of the SUSI grant system“If we want our young people, and our mature students to flourish within our education system, then we need to support them. I do not believe the current SUSI income criteria does that sufficiently”
