Project will provide modern facilities for up to 1,000 students
The Department of Education has issued a Letter of Intent for a major new school building project at St Mary’s Girls Post Primary School in Naas, paving the way for the development of modern facilities capable of accommodating up to 1,000 students.
Kildare North Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Higher Education, James Lawless, welcomed the announcement, describing it as an important step forward for the school community.
The project forms part of the Department’s Large Scale Capital Programme and will include a new school building with capacity for 1,000 pupils as well as six dedicated Special Education Needs (SEN) classrooms.
Minister Lawless said the issuing of the Letter of Intent represents a significant milestone in progressing the long-awaited development.
“The issuing of a Letter of Intent marks an important milestone in progressing this project and ensuring the school has the modern facilities it needs to support students now and into the future" he said.
The Kildare North TD & Minister also acknowledged the work of the school’s leadership and wider community in bringing the project to this stage.
“I will continue to work closely with the Principal and the school to ensure this new development progresses as quickly as possible and that the project moves forward to the next stages without delay.”
With the Letter of Intent now issued, the next stage will involve the finalisation of contracts before construction can begin.
