KCC says it will allow video doorbells, including Ring-style devices, only if prior approval is given,
Kildare County Council says tenants must get permission before installing video doorbells, warning that the devices are classed as alterations to council homes.
The warning follows a question from Cllr Noel Connolly (SF), after concerns raised elsewhere in the country about privacy and data protection.
The council says it will allow video doorbells, including Ring-style devices, only if prior approval is given, cameras are limited to the tenant’s own property, and do not record public roads or neighbouring homes.
Tenants are also warned that once installed, they are legally responsible for any footage recorded and must comply with data protection law.
The council said prior approval must be sought in advance by the Housing Maintenance Section.
