Storm Eowyn made landfall overnight
Over 715,000 customers across the country are without power this morning, with thousands affected in Kildare, as Storm Eowyn made landfall overnight.
A status red warning is in place until 11am, with Met Eireann issuing a stay-in-place/do-not-travel warning.
A number of trees are down around Kildare with roads blocked, making driving conditions extremely hazardous in some areas.
It's unclear when power will be restored in affected areas as ESB crews grapple with the increasing number of outages.
All schools, colleges and creches are closed.
Public transport will not run during the red weather warning.
All non-urgent hospital appointments are cancelled.
The HSE says critical emergency services will continue to run, including prenatal care for expectant mothers.
Emergency Departments remain open, however, the public is asked only to attend A&E for serious illnesses and injuries.
