Organisers say the initiative aims to spark conversations within families about healthy technology habits and the importance of balancing screen time.
Twelve local primary schools in and around Naas are joining forces once again to promote the Go Phone Free initiative.
The voluntary scheme encourages parents to agree that children in primary school will have no smartphones, no social media, and that they will respect age ratings on video games.
Following the success of last year’s community event, the schools’ Parents’ Associations have organised a Go Phone Free Week, running until October 17th.
The week will feature a range of activities, including themed performances, guest talks, and information sessions for parents across participating schools.
A highlight will be the Go Phone Free Art Poster Competition, with winning entries set to go on display in Naas Library in the coming weeks.
Organisers say the initiative aims to spark conversations within families about healthy technology habits and the importance of balancing screen time.
For more details, participating schools have published a full list of events online.
Speaking on Kildare Today, Jana Drennan, GoPhone Free Committee member, said some children are not equipped to deal with certain content they may see online.
Meanwhile, new restrictions on Instagram will limit who teens can interact with on the app.
As part of new plans from parent company Meta, under 18s won't be able to follow or engage with Instagram accounts which frequently share inappropriate content.
Content will be rated like films at the cinema and will require young people to get parental permission to have the restrictions lifted.
