The Garda Roads Policing Operation for the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend began on Thursday April 2nd and will end at 7:00am on Tuesday April 6th
A woman has died after a road traffic accident that took place on Friday April 3rd.
The pedestrian in her 40s was hit by a lorry in County Donegal, and later died in hospital.
The incident occurred at the Station Roundabout in Letterkenny at around 3pm.
Gardaí are renewing their appeal for witnesses or anyone with camera footage from the scene to contact them.
An Garda Síochána have also reported that over 3,000 drivers have been caught speeding so far this Easter Bank Holiday Weekend, with more than 310 people using a mobile phone or not wearing a seatbelt.
A total of 138 people had been arrested for driving under the influence of either alcohol or drugs at the time of the reports release.
Notable speeds have been detected so far, including one person who was driving at 117 km/h in an 80km/h zone on the N4 in Lucan.
An Garda Síochána and the Road Safety Authority (RSA) have are urged all road users to support their efforts in keeping roads safe.
