He claimed his children are getting death threats every day on Twitter
Jonathan Dowdall claims his children have been subjected to death threats on Twitter since he decided to testify against Gerry Hutch.
He made the allegation on what is his fifth day giving evidence against Mr. Hutch, who is accused of murdering David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in 2016.
Dowdall made his statement against Gerry Hutch on the 23rd of September.
While being cross-examined at his trial today, he told Mr Hutch’s barrister that the level of intimidation faced by him and his family since then has intensified.
He claimed his children are getting death threats every day on Twitter.
He also claimed his 62 year old mother was forced to leave the country after receiving death threats over the phone and he said his daughter had to leave her job.
“Everything I feared would happen did happen, and worse,” he said.
While describing the pressure he’s under, he said, “that’s why nobody ever went against them. This is why nobody comes in and gives evidence.”
He also told the judges that, “no decent man threatens a 10 year old or a 14 year old kid.”
Dowdall was supposed to stand trial for murder too but the charge against him was dropped after he pleaded guilty to a less serious offence.
