Friday Morning Sports Update

Keeping you up to date on GAA, soccer, golf, rugby and racing.

GAA

Kildare Senior Footballers are in action in the Allianz Football League on Saturday.

Kildare play Derry in Cedral St Conleth's, Newbridge with throw-in at 6:30pm.

Kfm will have full live commentary of that match in association with Hanlon Concrete Robertstown.

Kfm is, also, awarding a player of the match for each of this season's Kildare football and hurling league games, sponsored by Frank McMahon and Co Accountants Kildare, Naas and Dublin.

This morning's Kildare Today from 10:45am and this evening's Sports Preview from 6:25pm looks ahead to all the Kildare weekend sport.

SOCCER

Keith Andrews is refusing to entertain any talk of Brentford challenging for European football this season.

The west London club are seventh in the Premier League table after playing out a 1-all draw with league leaders Arsenal last night.

There are four matches in the League of Ireland Premier Division tonight - with the two most recent champions set to meet at Tolka Park.

Shelbourne play host to Shamrock Rovers from 8pm.

Elsewhere, at 7.45pm, Derry City entertain Dundalk, St Pat's face Galway United and Drogheda United play Waterford.

The First Division season also gets underway tonight.

Cork City begin their bid to return to the top flight with the visit of Treaty United to Turner's Cross.

In the other games, Athlone Town host Finn Harps, Bray Wanderers entertain Longford Town, Wexford go to Cobh Ramblers and UCD play Kerry.

There are two fourth-round fixtures in the English FA Cup tonight.

Chelsea make the trip to Hull City, while Wrexham host Ipswich Town - kick-off in both games is at 7.45pm.

GOLF

Two double bogies in three holes left Rory McIlroy frustrated after his opening round at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am last night.

The defending champion ended the day on four-under-par overall, which leaves him six shots adrift of leader Ryo Hisatsune (pr: his-at-son-eh) of Japan.

Shane Lowry is five-under heading into day two.

Kildare's Lauren Walsh is now six-under-par after nine holes of her third round at the Saudi Ladies International.

Anna Foster is a shot further back, with England's Mimi Rhodes the leader on 11-under-par.

RUGBY

The Ireland under-20s will look to get their Six Nations campaign back on track tonight.

Andrew Browne's side host their Italian counterparts at Virgin Media Park, where there's a 7.45pm kickoff.

RACING

There's a seven-race card in Dundalk later, with the first going to post just before 4:30pm.
