Tuesday Morning Sports Update

The Cheltenham Festival begins today.

SOCCER

Shamrock Rovers came from 2-nil down to earn a draw away to Shelbourne in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division last night.

The Hoops move up to third in the table, five points off league leaders Bohemians.

Brentford boss Keith Andrews has defended Dango Ouattara after last night's FA Cup penalty shoot-out defeat at West Ham.

The visitors lost 5-3 on penalties.

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has called the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie against Barcelona the club's "biggest game" in a generation.

They welcome the Catalan giants to St James' Park for a 8 o'clock start.

At the same time, out-of-form Tottenham chase their first win under Igor Tudor when they travel to Atletico Madrid.

Liverpool are in Turkey for a 5.45pm kick off against Galatasaray.

RACING

The Champion Hurdle is the feature on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival.

There's a field of nine, headed up by the rematch between Lossiemouth and Gordon Elliott's Brighter days ahead.

The Willie Mullins'-trained Lossiemouth is unbeaten at Cheltenham - having previously landed the Mares' Hurdle and Triumph Hurdle at the Festival.

This year's Festival gets underway with the Grade One Supreme Novices' Hurdle at twenty-past-one.

GOLF

Rory McIlroy says a "stubborn" back problem is still troubling him as he races to be fit to defend his Players Championship title at Sawgrass this week.

The world number 2 pulled out of the Arnold Palmer Invitational after suffering spasms before his third round at Bay Hill on Saturday.

He'll make a late decision on whether he can tee it up at Sawgrass.
