Andy Farrell names his team for Thursday's Six Nations Opener.

Sunderland boosted their hopes of securing European football with a 3-nil win over Burnley in the Premier League last night. 

Burnley remain 11 points from safety and without a win in 15 league games.

Arsenal will look to seal their place in this season's League Cup final tonight. 

The Gunners hold a 3-2 lead over Chelsea heading into the second leg of their tie at the Emirates. 

Kick off is at 8pm.

Leaders Hearts have the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership tonight. 

They'll move nine points clear if they win away at St Mirren.

Jorgen Strand Larsen's move from Wolves to Crystal Palace was the big move on transfer deadline day. 

The Norwegian arrives at Selhurst Park in a deal worth up to 56 million euro. 

Johnny Kenny was also on the move last night - the Sligo native has joined Bolton on loan from Celtic until the end of the season. 


RUGBY 

Andy Farrell has named his Irish team to face France in Thursday's Six Nations opener with Jacob Stockdale and Suncroft's Cian Prendergast both handed starting roles for Thursday’s clash with France in Paris.

Stockdale returns on the left wing in place of James Lowe to earn his 41st cap, marking his first Six Nations start since the final round of the 2021 championship.

Yesterday, England named their team to face Wales on Saturday with captain Maro Itoje set to start on the bench.

The dates and venues for Ireland's Rugby World Cup Pool matches in Australia next year have been confirmed. 

Ireland's first game in Pool D will be against Portugal at the Sydney Football Stadium on Monday the 4th of October. 

The Scotland game will be in Perth Stadium on Sunday October 10th, while Docklands Stadium in Melbourne is the venue for the clash with Uruguay on Sunday October 17th.
