Thousands of American troops are on standby to assist Ukraine.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said there is no need for war in the country, as approximatel 100,000 Russian troops have gathered on the border.
Mr. Martin stated planned Russian military drills off the west coast of Ireland are not welcome.
