Biden Warns Of "Enormous Consequences" For Russia If The Country Invades Ukraine

Tensions on the two countries' border

The American President is warning of "enormous consequences" which could "change the world" if tensions across Russia & Ukraine's border escalates into war.

The Kremlin says any Western move to sanction the Russian President would be "politically destructive but not painful".

Thousands of American troops are on standby to assist Ukraine.

The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's committed troops to help defend if they do launch an attack.

Former UK ambassador to Russia, Roderic Lyne, thinks Vladimir Putin will try to avoid that:

Joe Biden says he has spelt out the consequences to Russia of invading Ukraine - including economic sanctions he would put in place.

Moscow has sent thousands of troops to the border area.

The Kremlin insists it has no intention of attacking Ukraine, and is blaming increasing tension on misinformation from western countries.

Biden told reporters he would hold Russian President Vladimir Putin responsible for any invasion of Ukraine:

Ireland will back strong economic sanctions on Russia - if the country invades Ukraine.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin has said there is no need for war in the country, as approximatel 100,000 Russian troops have gathered on the border.

Mr. Martin stated planned Russian military drills off the west coast of Ireland are not welcome.
