Brexit deal
The EU insists it is working to find practical solutions to difficulties with the Northern Ireland protocol.
It's part of the Brexit deal that requires checks on goods between Britain and the North, in order to avoid a hard border in Ireland.
Earlier, Britain's Brexit Minister David Frost threatened to invoke Article 16 of the deal, which would allow the UK to suspend aspects of the protocol unilaterally.
He also told the Conservative Party conference that "the long bad dream of our EU membership is over".
EU Commission Spokesperson Dana Spinant refused to be drawn into a war of words with the UK:
