Growing Unease In Kyiv As Convoy Of Russian Vehicles Over 40 Miles Heading To Capital

British intelligence suggests little progress made by Russians in past 24 hours

There's a growing sense of unease in the Ukrainian capital after new satellite pictures have revealed the scale of Russian military forces heading for Kyiv.

A convoy of trucks, tanks and other vehicles is 40 miles long.

British intelligence suggests the Russian advance on Kyiv has made little progress in the last 24 hours - despite increasing artillery strikes.

Kim Sengupta from the London Independent is in Kyiv and says initial optimism that Ukrainian forces were holding the capital city, is now fading:

The Kremlin says sanctions imposed on Russia by western nations won't change their position - while also denying allegations of strikes on civilian targets.
That's despite the UN saying 136 Ukrainian civilians have died in the conflict.

Over 70 soldiers were killed during an attack on a military base in the north-east of the country.

The UN says more than half a million Ukrainians have fled the country, with Poland saying 350,000 people have crossed the border.

Nina Tkachenko says she has no intention of leaving Kyiv:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has described missile attacks on Kharkiv as "state terrorism" by Russia.

Across the country, hospitals are trying to deliver scheduled treatment at the same time as helping people wounded by the war.

At the leading paediatric hospital in Kyiv, three children have been brought in so far - including a 10-year-old, who died.

Dr. Andrey Vysotskiy leads the emergency unit, which has been expanded:
