Mask wearing still mandatory on public transport & schools and healthcare workers must be vaccinated
New Zealand is set to drop the majority of its pandemic mandates over the next two weeks.
From the 4th of April, people will no longer have to be vaccinated to visit places like shops and restaurants, while limits on outdoor events have been scrapped.
Masks will remain mandatory on public transport and in schools, and health care workers must be vaccinated against the virus.
Announcing the change in policy, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said New Zealand has been successful in fighting covid but "it's been bloody hard":
To date, New Zealand has recorded over 500,000 cases of the virus, with a population of over 5 million people.
Comparing the Republic of Ireland, which has a near identical population number, 1.4 million cases of Covid-19 have been recorded since the pandemic was declared.
