The Taoiseach and the Tanaiste are among those expressing shock following a knife attack at a Sydney shopping centre.
Six people have been confirmed dead after a man carried out multiple stabbings in Westfield Bondi Junction mall.
Many more have been injured, including a baby.
The suspect was shot dead by a police officer, after he threatened her at knifepoint.
Assistant Commissioner of New South Wales police, Anthony Cooke, said the officer had been nearby and confronted the attacker on her own.
Taoiseach Simon Harris says he's "horrified" by the stabbing attack.
He says he will reach out to the Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese personally, but for now, he says "the thoughts and prayers of everyone in Ireland are with our Australian friends"
The Department of Foreign Affairs says it's aware of the attack and is ready to provide consular assistance if required.
Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tanaiste Micheál Martin says the attack underlines the threat posed across the globe by such unprovoked acts.
