UK Police Asked To Review Firearm Applications Process Following Plymouth Shooting

6 people died, including the gunman, on Thursday evening

In England, police are being asked to review their current firearm application processes, in the wake of last week's shooting in Plymouth.

On Thursday evening 5 people were killed by gunman, Jake Davison.

The victims included Davison's 51 year-old mother, Maxine, 3 year old Sophie Martyn, & her father, Lee, 43, Stephen Washington, 59 & 66 year-old Kate Shepard, who died in hospital.

Sheila Washington, widow of Stephen, described Mr. Washington as her "soulmate" who would help anyone at the drop of a hat.

She says the family's world has been turned upside down in the blink of an eye - and he will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.

A 33 year-old woman & 53 year-old man were also injured in the shooting, before Mr. Davison turned the gun on himself.

Questions remain over why Davison, 22, held a shotgun licence - the weapon was removed from him last year over an allegation of assault.

The UK government is preparing new guidance, including advice on carrying out social media checks on applicants.

Plymouth City Council held a 1-minute silence this morning at 11am, to remember the victims & support all those who have been affected.

Five bells were rung out at the Guildhall to mark each of the lives lost in Keyham.

A candlelit vigil is set to take place later.
