The first phase for this project will go tender in the final quarter of this year.
A number of junctions are being considered for upgrade in Kildare, including Dagwelds Cross and the Watchhouse Cross.
The question was raised at a recent meeting of Clane Maynooth MD by Cllr. Aidan Farrelly.
He asked the council to confirm what progress has been made to alleviate risk of road traffic collisions at Firmount Cross.
The Council said a framework of consulting engineers had been established and Phase 1a will go to tender in Quarter 4 2022.
Phase 1b which includes Firmount Cross will go to tender in Quarter 1 2023.
The council have given a list of initial junctions being considered for upgrade below.
