However new research shows there were just 3500 new cases referred to some sort of treatment.
Concerns are being raised about the lack of services for the children of people with alcohol addiction.
Alcohol Action Ireland says around half of those in treatment are fathers or mothers.
A HIQA type inspection regime must be established for all residential treatment services providing uniform outcome measurements and monitoring of services. #AlcoholTreatment
