Building Work Will Continue Over The Weekend At Celbridge Primary School

School management confirmed the mould issues will be addressed

Building work will continue over the weekend at St. Patrick's Primary School in Celbridge. 

The Board of Management at the school issued a statement to parents this afternoon citing this. They also confirmed that work has commenced on removing mould in the affected areas. 

The school will only be accessible to construction workers over the weekend and that any requests in terms of the buildings safety should be directed to the Department of Education.

Dear Families, 

The Project Manager has confirmed that works will continue in the school over the weekend, therefore it will only be accessible to the construction workers. 

Work on removing mould has begun and all identified areas will be treated before the pupils return on Monday. 

All requests for confirmation of the safety of the building should be forwarded to the Department of Education building section.

In summary, the methodology provides for a phased and controlled delivery strategy designed to allow the required works to progress while maintaining the safe operation of the school. The proposal includes the establishment of a secure site compound, clear segregation between school activities and contractor operations, and the maintenance of emergency escape routes throughout the works.

The external works has already commenced with scaffolding and roof remediation to both the two-storey and single-storey buildings, with the sequence prioritised to address the areas most critical to the repurposed classroom accommodation. These works will involve the removal and replacement of defective flashings and will be undertaken using appropriate access and edge protection measures.

Internally, the proposed methodology is to continue the works on a phased basis, generally taking two classrooms at a time out of use, with decanting into temporary or repurposed accommodation to facilitate continuity of school operations. The internal scope includes removal of existing floor finishes, replacement of defective plywood subfloor areas, installation of new vinyl finishes, and associated making good and cleaning.

The methodology also incorporates enabling works to the multipurpose and existing SET rooms, relocation of modular units to support temporary accommodation, checks and remedial actions to life safety systems, inspection of fire and emergency exit doors, and the completion of circulation space flooring works during the Easter holiday period to minimise disruption.

In addition, perimeter drainage improvement works are proposed in sections around the modular building to help address water ingress risks, with sequencing to be agreed with the school to maintain safe access and egress at all times.

Overall, the methodology is intended to provide a structured sequence for progressing the required remediation works in a safe, coordinated and practical manner within a live school environment.
