A sunscreen trial in Monasterevin has been described as a big success.
A Newbridge GP has said he agrees with the idea of sunscreen dispensers being rolled out across the county.
Dispenser pilots have been implemented across some parts of the county in the past.
Over the coming weekend, people in Cork will be able to get free sunscreen…but only after this current spell of warm weather.
From Monday, a number of areas there will see the rollout of SPF50 sunscreen in new dispensers.
Newbridge doctor Brendan O'Shea told Kfm that anything that encourages people to be sun smart is welcome.
A sunscreen trial in Monasterevin has been described as a big success.
Large dispensers were placed at the Monasterevin Kayaking Club as part of a HSE trial two years ago.
Athy man Pat Hickey said they have been a huge success.
He has had two skin tags removed from his face and said the use of sunscreen is so important.
He said the unit at the club includes mirrors and high-quality sunscreen and that sunscreen is often the first thing people ask for - especially when out on the water.
He said the dispensers are also popular during winter months.
Local Tidy Towns groups have also called for the dispensers to be rolled out across the county.
Meanwhile, The Irish Cancer Society has added to calls for local councils to introduce free sunscreen dispensers.
Kevin O'Hagan, Cancer Prevention Manager at the Irish Cancer Society, says more councils should get on board with the initiative.
