It had been operating for just two hours per day, while serving a population of over 21,000 people.
Public opening hours at Celbridge Garda Station have been extended, amid growing pressure over inadequate policing provision across North Kildare.
The station will now operate on weekday afternoons and evenings, with limited hours on Sundays.
It had been operating for just two hours per day, while serving a population of over 21,000 people.
Additional patrols have also been promised in the area.
Kfm recently reported how local business owners have had to band together to watch eachother's premises if they go out for lunch or have to run an errand.
However, residents are advised to contact Leixlip Garda Station for emergency assistance, as it remains the main operational hub.
The announcement comes following mounting criticism of major urban centres including Maynooth, Celbridge, Clane, and Kilcock - all served by part-time Garda stations.
Under the new schedule, Celbridge Garda Station will be open to the public on the following days and times:
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 1:30pm – 3:30pm
Tuesday and Thursday: 7:30pm – 9:30pm
Sunday: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Meanwhile, Maynooth, which has a combined population of around 31,000 residents and students, lacks a full-time station.
Leixlip, a town of comparable size, is served by 68 Gardaí.
Maynooth, by contrast, has just 15.
The station currently opens only in the evening on Mondays and Thursdays, and for two hours in the morning from Tuesday to Saturday.
