Declan Doyle Co-Opted To Celbridge–Leixlip Fine Gael Seat After Fahey Resignation

Tuesday, 25 November 2025 16:40

By Martin Osborne - Head Of News

Declan Doyle joins the council following decades of involvement in the party.

Fine Gael has co-opted Declan Doyle to the Celbridge–Leixlip Municipal District, filling the seat vacated by Cllr Lumi Panaite Fahey.

Fahey formally resigned on October 23rd, citing personal and work commitments, after 16 months representing Celbridge, Leixlip and Ardclough.

Declan Doyle joins the council following decades of involvement in the party.

He was first elected in 1979 to the then Dublin Corporation at the age of 22 – making him the youngest member ever elected at that time.

He served there until 1985.

He recently retired after working for almost 50 years in the hospitality industry.

He has lived in Celbridge for the past 26 years.

Issues the party say he will focus on include the delivery of a second bridge in Celbridge, providing community facilities in the Parochial House, and recreation facilities in Donaghcumper.

He recently worked as Fahey's local elections campaign manager.
