However, a timeline for the closure was not provided
The Defence Forces has confirmed to Kfm that the fire station in the Curragh is scheduled to close.
However, describing it as an "operational matter", a spokesperson for the Defence Forces said "it would not be pertinent to discuss the details/timelines of the closing".
The fire station in the Curragh has only ever been an internal service and is not part of the national fire services council, being only internal facing.
"Response for members of the public requiring fire services as an emergency in the wider Curragh area, has always been and will remain within the purview of Kildare County Council's Fire Service." the statement continued.
"Given that, members of the public's access to fire services will remain unaffected by this decision." the spokesperson concluded.
Kfm had been contacted by a number of listeners this week calling for clarity on the issue.
