Over 40% of first-time buyer mortgages drawn down to purchase properties in Kildare were taken out by Dublin residents.
Borrowers from Dublin dominated the first-time buyer mortgage market in Kildare last year, according to the latest data from the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI).
Over 40% of first-time buyer mortgages drawn down to purchase properties in Kildare were taken out by Dublin residents.
This trend was even more pronounced for new semi-detached or terraced homes in Kildare, where Dublin buyers represented a significant 60% of these mortgage draws.
This highlights a growing pattern of Dublin residents seeking housing opportunities in neighbouring counties, with Kildare being a particularly popular choice.
The report also revealed that approximately one in four first-time buyers in Ireland opted to buy or build homes outside their own counties last year.
This trend was particularly strong in Leinster, where the number of first-time buyers securing mortgages for homes in different counties rose by 5% compared to 2021 levels.
