Etex Ireland has today announced a proposal to cease metal forming operations in Athy.
It is unclear how employees will be affected, with the company saying it is "committed to supporting all potentially affected employees and managing the process in a responsible, transparent, and respectful manner".
It says it has been presented to employee representatives and workers and is subject to consultation.
If the proposal proceeds, the Athy metal forming operations would be wound down through a controlled and phased transition, with a planned production end date of 18 December 2026.
In a statement to Kfm News, it said it "follows a comprehensive review of the metal business" adding that market conditions are "highly competitive".
In addition, it says significant investment would be required to maintain and upgrade the metal operation that cannot be supported by a sustainable long-term business case for this activity.
