He exceeded the quota on the 11th count
Fine Gael's Martin Heydon has become the first TD elected in the Kildare South constituency.
In the 11th count, Cathal Berry's transfers helped him exceed the quota of 10,734, with Heydon finishing up on 11,364 votes.
Heydon was first elected as a TD in 2011 and in the last Dail term, he served as Junior Minister at the Department of Agriculture.
Speaking to Kfm after his election, he described topping the poll as a hugely proud day for him and his family.
Monday morning's Kildare Today programme will have an in-depth review of all the weekend's action.
