Council officials say the app’s continuation now depends on that funding being approved.
The future of the Cairde App, which sends community text alerts, is in doubt.
Kildare County Council says its current funding arrangement ends this month, with only enough money to cover the service for the rest of this year.
To continue beyond 2025, the council will seek Local Property Tax allocations from each Municipal District.
Council officials say the app’s continuation now depends on that funding being approved.
The Cairde App has been widely welcomed by Gardaí, who have promoted it to communities.
It facilitates the dissemination of Community Text Alerts, issued by An Garda Síochána and other authorised users.
"The Community Department does not have sufficient budgetary provision to support the service beyond 2025, accordingly the continuation of the Cairde application is contingent upon the success of this funding request. The application has been welcomed by An Garda Siochána who have played a key role in promoting take-up and engagement with the service," a council spokesperson said.
They were responding to information sought by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer (FG).
