Garda Commissioner Condemns "Social Media Attention" Behaviour While Driving After Fatal M9 Collision In Kildare

He said the tragedy, which follows a similar wrong-way collision on the M50 last weekend, highlights the extreme danger of driving against the flow of traffic.

Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly has described Sunday's fatal collision on the M9 near Moone and Castledermot as a "horrible incident", offering his sympathies to those injured and the emergency personnel who responded.

In a statement, Commissioner Kelly said his thoughts were with the victims, noting they had been travelling innocently when they were struck by a vehicle driving the wrong way on the motorway.

He said the tragedy, which follows a similar wrong-way collision on the M50 last weekend, highlights the extreme danger of driving against the flow of traffic.

He also criticised those who engage in such behaviour for social media attention, saying it disregards the devastating consequences for innocent road users.

The Commissioner confirmed An Garda Síochána will fully cooperate with the independent Fiosrú investigation into the incident and thanked Gardaí and emergency services for their response.
