Gardaí And Wildlife Officers Carry Out Joint Operation Targeting Illegal Hunting In South Kildare
Gardaí and wildlife officers have carried out a joint operation in South Kildare targeting illegal hunting and trespass.
The operation took place on Sunday, January 25th, involving An Garda Síochána and the National Parks and Wildlife Service, following ongoing reports of unlawful hunting and the targeting of protected wildlife.
High-visibility checkpoints were set up across mid and south Kildare, with joint patrols carried out at locations linked to illegal hunting activity, particularly in rural and farming areas.
Gardaí said unlawful hunting poses a serious threat to biodiversity and conservation, with protected species such as the Irish hare at risk.
They said the activity is also often associated with offences including trespass and criminal damage, causing distress for landowners and rural communities.
Meanwhile, images posted on social media earlier this month showed alleged illegal activity on the Curragh, prompting renewed calls for National Park status.
The images show large holes and burrows dug across parts of the plains.
