He was last seen alive that afternoon in Monasterevin, where he was trying to visit a relative who wasn't home at the time.
William was reported missing by his family on March 6th.
Gardaí later received information he had been killed and his body had been buried at a location in Laois.
Today, officers have arrested two women in their 20s and 30s and a man in his 30s as part of the investigation.
They're being held at Garda stations in the midlands and south west regions.
Gardaí believe people in the community have information and have not yet come forward, and are asking those to make contact with investigators.
