Imported fertiliser has risen since the conflict in the Middle East began
The Agriculture Minister is calling for the European Union to be 'flexible' with regards to levies on imported fertiliser.
Kildare South Fine Gael TD and Minister Martin Heydon says the Government wants the EU's Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism - which applies a tax to carbon imports - to be temporarily suspended on fertiliser.
The price of fertiliser has risen since the conflict between the US, Israel and Iran broke out.
Speaking in Brussels this morning, Minister Heydon says food production needs to be protected:
